FilmG, an annual short film competition, has served as a launchpad for numerous successful media careers since its inception in 2008. With dedicated competitions for both - 18 and 18+, FilmG offers workshops and support for films at any level and culminates in an awards ceremony in Glasgow. FilmG is proudly owned by MG ALBA and delivered by Stornoway-based company Astar.

The FilmG Clubs project was established as a complementary initiative to FilmG, extending the impact of the competition's success. FilmG’s core funding allows the team to organise two-day filmmaking workshops in Gaelic schools and communities across Scotland. With Screen Scotland’s support, the FilmG team were able to expand the skills and knowledge developed through these workshops by running ‘FilmG Clubs’.

Last year, FilmG Clubs were set up in four secondary schools as a pilot, and this year’s programme was expanded to reach more schools and communities across Scotland. Participants benefit from regular hands-on experience with professionals, with the opportunity to develop screen skills.

One of the FilmG Clubs in Cumbernauld created a film called ‘Beatha Dìomhair nan Tidsear,’ with the main character nominated for Best Performance in this year’s competition.

Screen Scotland further demonstrated its commitment by sponsoring the Best Production Design award at the recent annual FilmG awards ceremony.
