On Wednesday 9 March 2022, Screen Scotland will publish an addition to its funding requirements, which will encourage a more representative and inclusive Scottish film industry.
The BFI Diversity Standards – Screen Scotland Pilot will be effective from 1 April 2022, initially as a year long pilot. They will be required for applications to Screen Scotland’s Film Development and Production Fund and Film Festivals Fund. Following this pilot year, the aim is to implement the Standards across other funds from 2023.
Designed in consultation with the film and TV sector, the BFI Diversity Standards – Screen Scotland Pilot will encourage filmmakers, producers and distributors to make meaningful changes to their projects to become more inclusive. As a result, they will open up more opportunities for people from all walks of life to make and watch films.
Information sessions are being held during Glasgow Film Festival 2022 to support filmmakers in adopting the Standards. The Funding and the BFI Diversity Standards Session will take place 2:45pm - 3:30pm, 9 March, during Film Hub Scotland's Exhibitors Day and the BFI Diversity Standards – Screen Scotland Pilot Info Session will take place 1:30pm - 2:30pm, 10 March.
The BFI Diversity Standards – Screen Scotland Pilot are part of Screen Scotland’s ongoing development of skills and talent to ensure the Scottish industry is more inclusive and representative, building a strong pipeline of talent for the future.
